Electrical stimulation device treats age-related macular degeneration

Acuity Medical is pursuing new electrical stimulation technology to treat dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of vision loss and legal blindness in adults over 60 in the U.S.

Currently there is no effective treatment for AMD which, according to the World Health Organization, affects more than 50 million people worldwide.

Dry macular degeneration is the most common form of AMD, representing approximately 90% of all macular degeneration cases. Less common but more severe is wet AMD.
