South Africa needs more nurses as HIV/AIDS infections among healthcare workers rise

A study by a South African medical journal warned that the country needs more nurses as the number HIV/AIDS infections rises among healthcare workers. The report published in the October edition of the South African Medical Journal on the prevalence of HIV/Aids among South African health workers claims infection rates are "very high," the South African Press Association reported. "Given the high prevalence of HIV, 15.7%, in the younger population of health workers, it is critical to increase the numbers of nurses to be trained, particularly if one considers that from 1997 to 2001 the country experienced a 6.86% decline in the number of nurses...
