Private clinics in South Africa urge drug companies to lower prices

A U.S. AIDS foundation appealed to large drug manufacturers not to raise the price of AIDS drugs when incorporating new South African pricing regulations. Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which operates treatment clinics in South Africa, Uganda and Zambia, said some companies are raising the prices beyond the ability of private aid groups to buy the life saving medicines. South Africa's new pricing regulations require drug companies to charge state-associated AIDS treatment facilities the lowest prices for its drugs. It also requires them to charge a higher amount, called the "single exit price" to other organizations...
