Drug firm closes $15M financing, initiates trial of RNAi therapeutic

Acuity Pharmaceuticals, a product-focused ophthalmic pharmaceutical company, announced the closing of a $15 million Series B financing. Acuity also announced it has initiated a phase I clinical trial of its lead compound Cand5 in patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This is the first time that humans will be dosed with a therapeutic based on the pioneering new technology of RNA interference (RNAi), a recently-discovered biological method of turning off specific disease-causing genes.
