Short-term HRT effects vary among vascular sites

The effects of short-term hormone replacement therapy (HRT) vary among vascular sites, researchers say.

They also report finding that HRT exhibits no detectable short-term vascular effect in carotid arteries.

F. Lazar and colleagues in Sao Paulo, Brazil, compared "the short-term effects of oral HRT and placebo on carotid and uterine vascular impedance" in 80 postmenopausal women.

The study cohort was "selected from the outpatient clinic of the Hospital Leonor Mendes de Barros in Sao Paulo, Brazil, [and] randomized to oral HRT (estradiol 2 mg/norethisterone acetate 1 mg Kliogest) or placebo. Carotid and uterine arteries pulsatility...
