Book to help parents decide when to take children to ER

It's every parent's quandary: Should you take your sick or injured child to the emergency room, or not'

A new book being distributed by the state should help.

Parent educators will give the new books to 249 families in Boone, Clay, Kanawha and Putnam counties and help parents use them. Organizers will use surveys to see if the books make a difference in emergency visits and other health habits.

Written by two registered nurses, the 180-page work uses pictures and page numbers to make finding topics easier. Easy to understand words label each section: "earaches," "bumps on the head" and "something in the eye."
