PKC epsilon is linked to insulin resistance via plasma IL-6 regulation.

"Recent reports have suggested that PKC epsilon contributes to systemic insulin resistance, and is involved in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, however, the exact mechanism is still unknown," researchers in Japan reported in a recent issue of the journal Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications.

"To elucidate the possible involvement of PKC epsilon in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, we examined the role of PKC epsilon in differentiated adipocytes using mouse 3T3-LI adipocytes," explained K. Ohashi and colleagues.
