IMV nuclear medicine report shows utilization is up in hospitals vs. nonhospitals

An estimated 19.7 million nuclear medicine procedures were performed during 17.2 million patient visits in the United States in 2005, in over 7200 hospital and nonhospital sites, according to a report released by IMV Medical Information Division.

This represents a 15% increase from 2002 to 2005, from 14.9 million to 17.2 million patient visits, for an average annualized rate of 5% per year over the period. Over half, or 57%, of the patient visits were for cardiovascular studies, including cardiac perfusion.
