Studies from the United States, Belgium and United Kingdom add new findings to kidney disease body of knowledge

New findings from the United States, Belgium and United Kingdom describe advances in kidney disease.

Study 1: According to a study from the United States, vascular calcification and renal osteodystrophy influence chronic kidney disease (CKD).

"Cardiovascular disease and stroke account for 60-70% of all deaths in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), at a risk that is 10-20-fold the age- and sex-matched general population. There is also increased coronary artery calcification and increased cardiovascular mortality in CKD and dialysis patients compared with the general population," wrote S.M. Moe and colleagues, Indiana University.
