"Infective endocarditis is characterized by inflammatory infiltrates of mononuclear cells in infected cardiac valve leaflets. To delineate the role of valve interstitial cells (VICs) in leukocyte recruitment, we stimulated human VICs with glucosyltransferase, a modulin from viridians streptococci," scientists in Taipei, Taiwan report.
