Findings from University of Illinois Broaden Understanding of Coronary Heart Disease

2012 APR 15 -- "With the availability of transcatheter aortic valve replacement, management of coronary artery disease in patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) is posing challenges. Outcomes of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with severe AS and coronary artery disease remain unknown," scientists writing in the journal Circulation report.

"We sought to compare the short-term outcomes of PCI in patients with and without AS. From our PCI database, we identified 254 patients with severe AS who underwent PCI between 1998 and 2008. Using propensity matching, we found 508 patients without AS who underwent PCI in the same period. The...
