Heart and Lung Transplant Society marks 25 years

The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

The anniversary is significant within the medical community, as the Society's growth parallels milestones in heart and lung transplantation that have helped save or extend lives around the world during the past 25 years. Transplantation was just emerging from research into clinical practice when the Society was formed in 1981 - the same year the first successful heart-lung transplant was performed.

Today, heart and lung transplantation are indeed a clinical reality and another chance at life for scores of people suffering from heart and lung...
