2010 NOV 29 -- According to recent research from Abuja, Nigeria, "Sickle cell disease (SCD), a common recessively inherited haemoglobin disorder, affects people from sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, Mediterranean basin, Indian subcontinent, Caribbeans and South America. It is associated with complications and a reduced life expectancy."
