According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Annual Meeting of Professional Research Scientists entitled Experimental Biology 95, held April 9-13, 1995, in Atlanta, Georgia, "There is growing interest in the application of antisense RNA for the inhibition of gene expression and its potential gene therapy of viral infections. We have studied the inhibitory effect of antisense RNA directed against the HBV genome on the expression of the HBV surface antigen (HBsAg). Initial experiments were performed in vitro.
