IFN Sensitivity Is Identified in NS5A Region

An understanding of the exact nature of mutations associated with hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype-1b may enable clinicians to predict prognostic effects of interferon (IFN) treatment, Japanese researchers stated.

Nobuyuki Enomoto, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Tokyo, Japan, and colleagues said that the aim of their study was to elucidate the genetic basis of IFN resistance in HCV genotype-1b ("Comparison of Full-Length Sequences of Interferon-Sensitive and Resistant Hepatitis C Virus 1b," the Journal of Clinical Investigation," July 1995;96:224-230).
