Prolonged Viremia May Occur in Infected Individuals

Viremia commonly occurs in patients who are infected with hepatitis E virus (HEV), and the stability of the virus in stored blood products needs to be investigated, researchers stated.

Very little is understood about viremia, fecal shedding and antibody responses to HEV infections, noted Edward T. Clayson, Department of Virology, U.S. Army Medical Component of the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangkok, Thailand, and colleagues ("Viremia, Fecal Shedding, and IgM and IgG Responses in Patients with Hepatitis E," the Journal of Infectious Diseases, October 1995;172(4):927-933).
