Canadian Study Data Should Help in Healthcare Planning

Canadian researchers said their data on the risk of transfusion-acquired hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is similar to that reported for other studies performed in Canada and is comparable to such risks in the United States.

During the past 15 years, even before the introduction of specific HCV antibody blood donor screening in 1990, the incidence of transfusion-acquired HCV infection has significantly dropped, noted J.K. Preiksaitis and colleagues, University of Alberta, at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in an abstract presented at the Infectious Diseases Society of America 33rd Annual Meeting, San Francisco, California, September 16-18, 1995.
