According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Progress in Clinical Virology meeting, held September 10-14, 1995, in Prague, Czech Republic, "Increased comprehension of the roles that idiotopes and anti-idiotopes play through the idiotypic network in the regulation of the immune response has led to several practical applications in vaccine research and development. Anti-idiotypes have been used in the enhancement or induction of antibody responses to parasites, bacteria and viral pathogens.
