RBCs and PCs - Viral Inactivation Developments Show Promise

Blood banks may be using licensed viral inactivation procedures on red cells (RBCs) and platelet concentrates (PCs) by the turn of the century, researchers indicated.

"At this portion of the decade we should be thinking about the year 2000," Dr. Bernard Horowitz, Melville Biologics, New York, New York, told Blood Weekly. Horowitz chaired the panel on RBCs and Platelets at the Blood Safety & Screening, held October 23-25, 1995, in Washington, D.C.
