Ottawa Area Hospitals Launch HIV/Hepatitis C Awareness Campaign

Canadian area hospitals have again joined forces to raise awareness of the fact that some patients who received blood transfusions or blood products between 1978 and 1990 may have been exposed to HIV or Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). Before November 1985, the Canadian Red Cross Society did not test blood for HIV.

Although effective screening for HIV has been in place since November 1985 and for HCV since May 1990, some people infected may still be unaware that they have HIV or HCV.
