Longer and Higher-Dose IFN Treatment Advocated

Prolonged treatment with interferon-alpha appears superior to less aggressive therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis D infection, according to a report from Italy.

The report was one of several suggesting a response benefit to longer-term or higher-dose interferon in patients with chronic hepatitis delivered at the VII International Symposium on Viral Hepatitis, held January 25-27, 1996 in Madrid, Spain.

Researcher E. Minola and colleagues from Bergamo, Italy's Hospital Riuniti evaluated the efficacy of long-term interferon treatment in chronic hepatitis D virus (HDV) patients.
