Procollagen III Peptide Predictive of IFN Response

Low levels of procollagen III peptide appear to be predictive of initial response to interferon treatment in patients with chronic hepatitis, according to a report from Italy.

The report was one of several evaluating procollagen III peptide (PIIIP) levels in interferon-treated hepatitis patients presented at the VII International Symposium on Viral Hepatitis, held January 25-27, 1996 in Madrid, Spain.

Researcher A.M.G. Farci and colleagues evaluated whether the fibrogenesis marker PIIIP could be a useful predictive parameter of response to interferon-alpha by studying 28 patients (21 men, seven women) who had histologically documented chronic active...
