"Mode of Transmission of Hepatitis C Virus is Related to Severity of Liver Disease."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 46th Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, held November 3-7, 1995, in Chicago, Illinois, "Chronic infection with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) may lead to hepatic cirrhosis and to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It is unclear which patients will develop severe disease. Methods: 61 consecutive cases of HCV infection, presenting for diagnostic laparoscopy and liver biopsy were examined for serious hepatic pathology (hepatic cirrhosis or HCC).
