French Firm Pays $42 Million for Vaccine Technology

The University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Boston, reached a $42 million licensing agreement with a French pharmaceutical company for a type of vaccination developed at the university that may be used to fight HIV, hepatitis, influenza and other diseases.

The deal is the largest of its kind at the university and officials said it was a harbinger of more research agreements with private industry. "It's not only extremely important science, it's also good business," said Edward Bresnick, at the Worcester medical campus.
