Long-Term Hemodialysis Patients At Risk for Infection

Evidence concerning the mode of transmission and clinical manifestations of the recently discovered hepatitis virus (HGBV-C), was presented in the June 6, 1996, issue of the New England Journal of Medicine (N Engl J Med 1996;334:1485-1490,1536-1537).

The authors of the report are Dr. Kazuo Masuko and associates at several medical schools located in Tokyo, Japan. They focused their attention on 519 long-term dialysis patients, and used a reverse-transcriptase PCR assay to screen sera for evidence of HGBV-C infection.
