France To Put Epidemics on G7 Agenda

French President Jacques Chirac said he has planned to ask leaders of the Group of Seven industrialized nations to boost medical research to counter epidemics like AIDS and mad cow disease.

The French head of state also singled out the Ebola virus and hepatitis C and said other hitherto unknown epidemics may break out at any time. "Other diseases may be waiting in the shadows," he said.
