HCV RNA 2.0 Assay Accurately Distinguishes Genotypes

The hepatitis C virus RNA 2.0 assay accurately quantifies HCV RNA from all six major genotypes of hepatitis C, according to a report from a Massachusetts Veterans' Administration.

In those who are chronically infected with hepatitis C, both viral load and hepatitis C virus genotype may have clinical relevance. Numerous reports have indicated that serum HCV RNA levels and HCV genotype may be predictive of a sustained response to interferon alpha (IFN-(alpha)) therapy.
