IFN-(alpha) Treatment Diminishes Th2 Response in HCV Disease

An activated T-cell response is present in patients with hepatitis C-related liver disease and treatment with interferon alpha diminishes the T-helper type 2 response, according to a report from San Francisco's California Pacific Medical Center.

Interferon alpha (IFN-(alpha)) has been shown to be effective in some patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) disease. Although it is known that IFN-(alpha) can reduce HCV RNA levels, the exact manner of immunoregulation is not known.
