"The Role of Liver Transplantation in a Severe Haemophiliac Co-Infected with HCV and HIV."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 22nd International Congress of the World Federation of Hemophilia, held June 23-28, 1996, in Dublin, Ireland, "HIV infection is known to accelerate the progression of HCV related liver disease in co-infected haemophiliacs. We report the role of liver transplantation in a HIV and HCV co-infected haemophiliac. A 36 year old man with severe haemophilia A (FVIII <1%) was infected with HCV around 1975 and HIV in 1984. The HCV infection (genotype 1a) was asymptomatic with ALT levels fluctuating between 100 and 175 IU/L and virus load between 105 and 107 HCV copies/ml. Liver biopsy in 1993 showed established...
