Hepatitis A+B Twinrix Vaccine Receives European Approval

SmithKline Beecham (SB), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has received approval through the centralized European registration procedure to market Twinrix.

Twinrix is a combined vaccine against hepatitis A (HAV) and B (HBV). The approval applies to all 15 countries in the European Union.

HAV and HBV affect almost every urban and rural community and are among the most common infectious diseases in the world. Both represent serious public health problems: there are, worldwide, an estimated 1.4 million cases of HAV per year and 300 million-350 million chronic carriers of HBV.
