"Prospective Study of Hepatitis C Virus from Mothers HCV Positive/HIV Negative, to Infant, Frequency and Risk Factors."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 36th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, held September 15-18, 1996, in New Orleans, Louisiana, "Objective: We conducted a prospective study to discover the rate of HCV infection in babies born to mothers who were anti-HCV positive. None of them had evidence for hepatitis. Material and Methods: Since Nov. 1991 to Sept. 1995 a total of 7743 pregnant women were tested for antibodies against HCV, and 159 were positive (2.05%); 64 gave their informed consent to include their babies in this study.
