Hepatitis C May Be Involved in Development of MALT Lymphomas

Hepatitis C virus is a potential infectious co-factor in the multistep pathogenesis of low-grade lymphomas of MALT type, according to an Italian report.

The report, presented by researcher Mario Luppi and colleagues, is the first to link hepatitis C virus (HCV), along with Helicobacter pylori, to the pathogenesis of low-grade lymphomas of the MALT type ("Additional Neoplasms and HCV Infection in Low-Grade Lymphoma of MALT Type," British Journal of Hematology, August 1996;94:373-375).
