"IFN(alpha) Production in Patients with Chronic HCV: Differences in Serum Concentration and Subtypes Compared to Healthy Volunteers."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the First Joint Meeting of the International Cytokine Society and the International Society for Interferon and Cytokine Research, held October 6-10, 1996, in Geneva, Switzerland, "The serum IFN(alpha) concentration in patients with chronic HCV was determined by ELISA. Using 37 healthy controls, an upper limit of normal of 119 pg/ml (mean + 3 SDs) was established. 43% of patients with chronic HCV (n=49) had IFN(alpha) concentrations above this level and 8% had levels greater than 1,000 pg/ml.
