Chromosome 8p Loss Common in HBV+ HCC Patients

A Chinese study showing a frequent loss of chromosome 8p in hepatitis B virus-positive hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients may shed light on the association between hepatitis and cancer.

Researcher Sherry A. Becker and colleagues suggest that viral integration sites associated with gross chromosomal alterations may serve as markers identifying regions of the cellular genome harboring tumor suppressor genes whose loss is important to hepatocarcinogenesis.
