Prenatal Education Boosts Infant Vaccination

Better education of pregnant women is needed to improve infant hepatitis B vaccination rates, according to a report from the Hepatitis Branch of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

"Hepatitis B vaccine coverage among young children in the United States is not optimal," researcher Janet Zola and colleagues wrote ("Attitudes and Educational Practices of Obstetric Providers Regarding Infant Hepatitis B Vaccination," Obstetrics and Gynecology, January 1997;89(1):61-64).

"Education of pregnant women and new parents by prenatal care providers may be an opportunity to further motivate new parents to seek vaccination for their infant...
