Necroinflammation Critical in Hepatitis-Linked HCC

The necroinflammatory process appears to be important in the development of new hepatocellular carcinoma nodules in hepatectomized patients with cirrhosis and hepatitis C-associated cancer, according to a report from Japan.

Researcher Kazuo Tarao and colleagues further found that reducing hepatic inflammation after hepatectomy is important in preventing the development of new hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC) ("Relationship Between the Recurrence of Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Serum Alanine Aminotransferase Levels in Hepatectomized Patients with HCV-Associated Cirrhosis and HCC," Cancer, February 15, 1997;79(4):688-694).
