Compound Procedure Hopes To Regulate Immune System

Enzo Biochem Inc., Farmingdale, New York, announced the filing of a U.S. patent application for a compound and procedure that could allow for the management of undesirable immunologic complications of HIV, hepatitis and other infectious diseases by selectively suppressing the immune response to such diseases.

The immune response to an infectious agent is being recognized as a major complication in the management of the disease. In certain circumstances, the body's immune reaction destroy both infected and noninfected cells. This response can contribute to the disease process.
