According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 4th International Meeting on Hepatitis C Virus and Related Viruses, Molecular Virology and Pathogenesis, held March 6-10, 1997, in Kyoto, Japan, "To determine the genetic heterogeneity of GBV-C and hepatitis G virus (HGV), 2,918 samples from 37 countries were screened to be positive for HGV RNA by RT-PCR. After the determination of nucleotide sequences in 5'UTR and NS5 region of HGV RNA among the samples with HGV RNA, we analyzed these sequences by the 6-parameter and the Neighbor-Joining method.
