Transgenic Mice Expressing HCV Core/HCV E2 Developed

Researchers from California's Scripps Research Institute report the production and characterization of transgenic mice that express hepatitis C virus (HCV) core and HCV E2 proteins in their hepatocytes.

"These animals not only shed light on the pathogenic potential of these viral proteins, they also represent an initial step towards the development of a small animal model of HCV immunopathology," researcher Claudio Pasquinelli and colleagues wrote ("Hepatitis C Virus Core and E2 Protein Expression in Transgenic Mice," Hepatology, March 1997;25(3):719-727).
