Anti-HBc Avidity Studies Useful Prognostic Indicators

Anti-hepatitis B core antigen avidity studies may have diagnostic and prognostic significance, according to a report from the United Kingdom.

"The results contained in this paper suggest that the appearance of high avidity anti-HBc antibodies may play an important role in the events which lead up to the HBeAg-to-anti-HBe seroconversion," researcher H.I.J. Thomas and colleagues wrote ("Relative Functional Affinity of Specific Anti-Core IgG in Different Categories of Hepatitis B Virus Infection," Journal of Medical Virology, April 1997;51:189-197).
