HGV Infection May Not Be Clinically Significant In Some Cases of Liver Dysfunction

Half of a multitransfused group of patients with hematological malignancy were found to be positive for hepatitis G virus.

The finding provides further evidence that hepatitis G virus (HGV) is transmitted via blood transfusion, indicated Susan J. Skidmore and colleagues , Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Birmingham, United Kingdom ("High Prevalence of Hepatitis G Virus in Bone Marrow Transplant Recipients and Patients Treated for Acute Leukemia," Blood, May 15, 1997;89:3853-3856).
