"Prevalence of Abnormal Serum Alanine Aminotransferase and Hepatitis B and C Markers in Asymptomatic Blood Donors of Southern Taiwan."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 97th Annual Meeting of the American Gastroenterological Association, held May 11-14, 1997, in Washington, DC, "Screening for antibodies to HCV in blood donors was introduced in Southern Taiwan since Sept. 1993. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the prevalence of abnormal serum ALT, HbsAg and antiHCV carrier in blood donors. Methods: Between Sept. 1993 and Jan. 1996, a total 17,711 asymptomatic male blood donors with mean age of 23 years old (range 20-29), were received serial screening tests, including serum ALT, HBsAg and anti-HCV.
