According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the First Australasian Conference on Hepatitis C, held March 16-18, 1997, in Sydney, Australia, "The possibility of transmitting Hepatitis C virus (HCV) through accidental exposure to contaminated surfaces, equipment or biological material is of concern to healthcare workers and others who have contact with HCV carriers such as injecting drug users (IDU).
