"Hepatocellular Cancer Amongst Patients with Hepatitis C: Who Is at Risk and Is There Any Role of Screening?."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the First Australasian Conference on Hepatitis C, held March 16-18, 1997, in Sydney, Australia, "Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the commonest cause of death from chronic Hepatitis C. Factors determining patients at increased risk and utility of screening for early detection are largely unknown. Objective: To identity possible risk factors for the development of HCC amongst pts. with Hepatitis C induced cirrhosis by comparison with cirrhotics who haven't developed HCC.
