"Prevalence of Hepatitis G Virus in Patients Diagnosed of Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Alcoholic Cirrhosis."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 37th ICAAC, held September 28 - October 1, 1997, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, "To assess the presence of Hepatitis G Virus (HGV) in patients diagnosed of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and alcoholic cirrhosis (AC), we studied the sera of 81 patients (38 HCC and 43 AC). RNA-HGV was defined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique, amplifying the NS3 region of the viral genome, and detected by hybridization with a degenerated probe. Serological markers of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) were detected with standard assays. None of the AC patients were HBsAg and/or anti-HCV positive.
