Relief Efforts In ARF Epidemic: The Haiti Experience

An epidemic of pediatric acute renal failure (ARF) in Haiti in 1996 provided a unique opportunity to understand the major problems of recognizing and managing ARF in developing countries.

Researchers R. Mehta and colleagues from the University of California at San Diego; Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland; the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; and the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada presented a clinical study of the medical assistance effort in Haiti at the American Society of Nephrology 30th Annual Meeting & Scientific Exposition in San Antonio, Texas, held November 2-4, 1997 ("Epidemic of Acute Renal Failure: The Haiti Experience").
