Investigation Agents Show Promise for Autoimmune Hepatitis

The investigational therapies, tacrolimus and budesonide, show promise in the treatment of autoimmune hepatitis, but larger studies are needed to confirm their efficacy.

"As the pathogenic mechanisms of autoimmune hepatitis are elucidated, additional therapies can be anticipated," Albert J. Czaja of Rochester, Minnesota's Mayo Clinic said in a presentation given at the 48th Annual Meeting of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, held November 7-11, 1997, in Chicago, Illinois.
