According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 39th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology, held December 5-9, 1997, in San Diego, California, "Epidemiological and clinical studies indicate an association between H. pylori chronic gastric infection and the risk of developing gastric B-cell lymphoma of mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT). Moreover, HCV infection has been suggested as a possible co-factor in the development of gastric MALT lymphoma.
