The Netherlands Experiences Surge in Hepatitis A Cases

Researchers with the Dutch system for the notification of infectious diseases (Infectieziekten Surveillance Informatie Systeem; ISIS) reported a significant increase in the number of hepatitis A infection cases during the first seven weeks of 1998.

The cause(s) of the increase in disease incidence remains unknown, however, said Lynette Wijgergangs on behalf of the ISIS research team in a Eurosurveillance Weekly article ("Upsurge of Hepatitis A in The Netherlands," Eurosurveillance Weekly, February 26, 1998, <http://www.eurosurv.org>).
