"Health Education Among Gay and Bisexual Men: What the 'Safer-Sex Message' Left Out."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the International Conference on Emerging Infectious Diseases, held March 8-11, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia, "Issue: Traditional safer sex messages have focused on effective methods to reduce the risk of HIV infection. Among populations of men who have sex with men (MSM), there are also concerns regarding the communicability of various bacterial and viral infections (hepatitis A, amebiasis, giardiasis, Shigella) via the fecal-oral route.
